Questions Property Managers and Developers Ask About Column Wrap Marketing

Straight answers for parking garage owners, operators and developers.

01

What are column wraps used for in a parking garage besides protection?

+

Cingo column wraps do three jobs beyond protecting the column: branding and identity, wayfinding, and revenue. A facility can use them to carry its own brand, mark levels and zones so drivers find their way, designate reserved, valet or monthly parking, or sell advertising and sponsorship space to outside brands. Because the same wrap protects the column and carries the message, the graphics add no separate structure to build or maintain. Which uses make sense depends on the garage: a hospital may prioritize wayfinding, while a high-traffic airport or downtown garage may lean toward sponsorship.

02

Can a parking garage make money from column wraps?

+

Yes. Columns are the one surface every driver and passenger passes at close range, so they work as ad space for a captive audience. Facilities can sell the wraps to local and national advertisers, offer sponsorship packages for a level or an entire garage, or trade the space for a sponsor’s help paying for the program. How much a garage earns depends on traffic, dwell time, number of columns and local ad rates, and Cingo does not publish a rate card. Our guide to parking garage column wrap advertising explains the revenue models in detail.

03

How do column wraps help drivers find their way around a garage?

+

Wraps are placed exactly where drivers look when they are lost: at eye level, on the column next to the lane. A facility can color-code levels or zones, print level numbers and section names in large type, or add arrows and landmarks such as elevator or exit directions. This reduces the confusion and frustration of circling a garage, which matters most in garages used by first-time visitors like hospitals, airports and universities. Wayfinding graphics can share a wrap with a sponsor’s logo, so wayfinding and advertising can run on the same column.

04

Can a wrap mark reserved, valet or monthly parking spaces?

+

Yes. Wraps can identify reserved, valet and monthly parking areas so drivers can see at a glance which spaces are restricted, without relying on small signs or floor paint that is easy to miss. Printing the zone name and color on the nearest columns also makes the restriction easier to enforce and explain to tenants and visitors. Because the graphics are printed to your design, they can also carry a tenant’s name or brand, so the same column serves the facility and the tenant.

05

What is the difference between a column wrap and a sign or wall banner?

+

A sign or wall banner is a flat message mounted on a wall or hung from the structure. A column wrap goes around the column itself, so the message is visible from several angles as a driver approaches and passes, and it also shields the column from vehicle contact. Wall banners can be larger, but wraps sit directly in the sightline of the lane. Many garages use both. See our comparison of column wraps, wall banners and digital displays for how each performs.

06

What are Cingo column wraps made of?

+

Each wrap has a foam interior and a smooth, opaque, flexible commercial-grade PVC banner exterior. The foam absorbs impact when a vehicle or door touches the column; the PVC surface carries the printed graphics. The material is water resistant and fire retardant, and it is installed without drilling or fixtures. That combination is what lets one product protect the column and carry your message. Because the wrap is installed without drilling, it does not alter the concrete, and the product has become a benchmark at parking decks throughout Europe. Cingo products are made in the USA, based on a design that originated with a European engineer. For specifications, sizes and shapes, see our column protector product page.

07

How tall are the wraps, and can they fit our columns?

+

Wraps are custom made for each column. They fit square, rectangular, beveled, oval, round, hexagonal and octagonal columns. Typical height is 5 feet, and the maximum is 8 feet, so the graphic sits at driver eye level and in the zone where most vehicle contact happens. If your columns have unusual dimensions or a beveled corner, tell us during the first call so the survey can capture it. We survey the garage first so each wrap is cut to the actual dimensions of your columns rather than a standard size.

08

How does a project work from first call to installation?

+

Cingo manages the project end to end: a survey of the columns, design of the graphics, printing and production, shipping, and installation. Testing is done on location. You supply the brand, the wayfinding plan or the advertisers; we handle the rest, which means a property manager does not need a separate print vendor and installer. Timelines and pricing depend on the number of columns and the artwork, so we quote each project individually; contact us with your garage details to start.

09

How long do the wraps last?

+

Cingo’s estimated lifespan is 10 to 20 years, depending on traffic, how often vehicles contact the columns, and cleaning. Cingo describes cost-efficient reprinting with replacement graphics, so a campaign can change without starting over. Ask how the swap is done for your garage, since the answer depends on the installation.

10

Do the wraps interfere with fire exits or safety equipment?

+

The wraps are fire retardant and are fitted around the column without drilling, so they do not obstruct egress routes or alter the building structure. Wraps are also water resistant, which suits the damp, salt-laden conditions of many garages. Placement is planned during the on-site survey, and wayfinding graphics can help point people toward exits. Requirements vary by local code and fire marshal, so ask us for the product’s fire documentation to share with your authority having jurisdiction before ordering.

11

Do column wraps protect cars as well as columns?

+

Yes. The foam core cushions contact between a column and a car door or bumper, which helps reduce paint damage and the liability claims that follow. Our asset and vehicle protection page explains how the foam wraps compare with bare concrete and rigid guards. A wrap is not a crash barrier; it is designed to absorb low-speed contact in tight parking, such as a door swinging open or a bumper brushing a column. For the full comparison with steel guards and polymer guards, see our column protector page.

12

What kinds of garages use branded column wraps?

+

Hospitals, universities, airports, mixed-use buildings and commercial parking operators all use them, with different priorities in each. Hospitals focus on wayfinding and calm, readable signage; universities on campus branding and sponsor programs; airports on advertiser revenue. Each type of garage weighs these uses differently. These differences are why each audience has its own guide. See the guides for hospital, university and airport garages.
